Lena Cup Sizing Guide: How to Choose the Right Menstrual Cup

Choosing a menstrual cup should feel simple, not overwhelming. But if you're wondering whether to choose Small or Large, or Lena Original or Sensitive, you're not alone.

The right menstrual cup is one that fits your body, feels comfortable and works with your routine. Your flow matters, but it's not the only thing to consider.

Take the Sizing QUiz

Here is our simple recommendation:

  • Small: Our recommendation for most beginners, including those with heavy flow.
  • Large: For experienced users or anyone who wants extra capacity, especially overnight.
  • Original: Medium firmness that helps the cup hold its shape.
  • Sensitive: Softer and more flexible for those who prefer a softer feel.

Small or Large: Which Menstrual Cup Size Is Right for Me?

Small: A Great Starting Point

We recommend Lena Small for most beginners. It can work for light, medium and heavy flow, depending on how quickly your cup fills.

Small may be right for you if you're new to menstrual cups, prefer a smaller cup or want a manageable size while you learn. If you have a lower cervix, a shorter cup may also feel more comfortable.

Large: Extra Capacity When You Want It

Lena Large is a good option for experienced cup users or anyone who wants extra capacity, particularly overnight. You don't automatically need Large just because you have a heavy flow.

If you have a higher cervix, consider whether you can comfortably reach the cup for removal. Cervix height can affect comfort and ease of removal, but it doesn't automatically determine which size you need.

Both sizes are available in Lena Original and Lena Sensitive. Your flow, comfort, anatomy and personal preferences all matter when choosing a size.

Lena Original vs. Lena Sensitive

Lena Original

Medium firmness. Holds its shape.

Lena Original may be easier to open if you’re new to menstrual cups or prefer a cup with a little more firmness. It’s designed to provide reliable protection when positioned and opened correctly.

Choose Original if: You prefer a cup that feels a little firmer and holds its shape.

Lena Sensitive

Softer and more flexible.

Lena Sensitive is designed for those who prefer a softer cup or find firmer cups uncomfortable. Like Original, it’s designed to provide reliable protection when positioned and opened correctly.

Choose Sensitive if: You prefer a softer feel or experience pressure or discomfort with firmer cups.

Good to know: Original and Sensitive have the same capacity in matching sizes. The main difference is firmness, not how much they hold.

Measuring your Cervix

  1. Wash your hands and gently insert one finger until you feel your cervix, which feels firm and rounded, like the tip of your nose.
  2. Notice how far your finger goes before reaching it. The sooner you reach it, the lower your cervix.

Your cervix changes throughout your cycle: It often sits higher around ovulation and lower during your period, but this varies. Pregnancy and childbirth can also change your cervix and pelvic floor, so it’s worth checking again after childbirth once you’ve recovered.

Remember: Cervix height is just one factor when choosing your Lena Cup. Comfort, flow and ease of removal matter too.

"I was highly skeptical to switching from tampons to a menstrual cup, but I’m glad I did. I chose Lena because many reviews rated it as a good choice for beginner’s. After one cycle I’ve converted to menstrual cups and I will continue to use Lena products from now on."

“After my first insertion, I let the Lena Cup in for twelve hours with absolutely no leaks. I did squats and step-ups at the gym with no issues. The firmness around the rim helps it pop open right away and stay sealed really well. Lena is great for active days.”
